Shoulder stability.

There are many complex terms used in shoulder pain, and words such as frozen shoulder, cuff impingement, rotator cuff tears, labral injury all relate to the complex control of muscles connecting either the arm to the scapula or shoulder blade, or the scapula to the neck and back. Pain can radiate to the arm, neck, back or shoulder and clinical examination, history and ultrasound or MRI imaging can help us make the diagnosis. Once the diagnosis is made, the path is much easier with clear options and timelines.

A focussed strength program targeted at the source of instability is tremendously helpful, taping, massage , ultrasound machines and immobilisation less so. You may benefit from an injection to ease pain and help with mobilisation but 4 out of 5 patients I see, do not need this before we test the shoulder strength and stability using our SSC Lab.

By carefully assessing where you are at before we start in terms of strength, we can define the journey much more clearly, see you less, at less expense and often guide your program remotely by digital follow up. Testing of course is only available at our Dublin SSC Lab. We use 3D biomechanics to detail the condition of your shoulder in push, pull, rotate and force absorption and production.

Surgery is an option of course for recurrent instability, or acute trauma, but usually these are less common than you might think. If you are post operative our SSC Lab can guide your rehab objectively , with clear markers to help yu and your treating physiotherapist
