Collagen.

Collagen is an important substance in the body when we look at movement, it is the substance which makes up tendon, connecting muscle to bone, allowing us to move and is involved at every joint. Collagen is the cause of many causes of pain and injury and there are number of types of this substance which genetics influences. Type III collagen has a lower breaking strain than other types and is also the type that most injury re-models with and as such can influence recovery.

It is the culprit in tendinopathy, commonly seen in the patellar and achilles tendons where long rehabilitation times are due to the slow remodelling and lack of chemical inflammation pathways  allowing faster remodelling. The search is n to look for agents which can expedite the remodelling process here, but work is slow.
